Help with the main data view.

Monday 8 February 2010, 11:26AM

So you’ve seen the rough design of the list of data logs. Now I’m working on the actual, individual data log page. As in, the page you see once you click on “Water per day,” for example.

My question to you guys is: what should it look like? I know I want graphs/charts, and I know I want to view previous days and also have a nice, big input method somewhere, but I have no idea how it should *really* look. Should the graphs be a seperate page completely, or should it be on the bottom of this page.

This is what I’ve got so far, but I’m not happy with it. At all:

HELP. Whether it’s a comment, a mockup, a full-blown design, or links to stuff you think look way awesome-r than mine, HELP.

Thanks!

could you use the accelerometer to jog the counter up? of course, if you wanted to decrement rather than increment you would need a toggle function as well.
i think the idea of swiping to change the visible period for graphs is good as well (@choise)
if you had more than a week you could use pinch zoom : default view of whole logged period, zoom in to specific time span (apologies never done iphone so assume zoom pinching is difficult?)

    Simple:
    Where you put the 3 ? ? ?:

A scrollable screen (like springboard itself, with the 2 dots at the bottom, visually pointing which "page" you are in.
First screen: 2 big squared, with circled corners, + (green) and - (red) buttons, clickable to raise and lower the quantity.
If you scroll to the second page, a BIG number, clickable itself, that shows up the iphone number keyboard, so one can input the full number.

So, if I have to input a low number (such as glasses of water), I just have to click the plus button; if I need to input a big number (like my weight) I can use the textbox.

Of course the text are should be big (we all love big-calendar-icon-like-numbers).

I hope you like my idea! ;)
  • Heres an idea, Sparklines in the main list view?

    Great idea, looking into it.

I'd say to take a look at Roambi. Beautiful data visualization that should help with some inspiration. There's also a book out there on ways to visualize data that someone did as their PhD. Can't remember the title, but search for it. Probably too detailed for this week, but could help later.

Perhaps give DAYTUM a gander for some inspiration?

    Hello,

I think you could have a glass of water (GOW) which have 8 sections and a +/- on the left to add the GOW you have consumed a daily bases.
And as you add a GOW a day you get some comments or messages.
You have also another label or slide to show the GOW statistics/graphs by days, weeks, months.

I hope that helps or inspire you with some ideas

    Good Luck
  • To tap on the icon of glass to count. then use fast flip across few icons to tap on it. Just a suggestion.
  • what if you could slide throught the graphs? this position of the graphs looks good ( the color: not ;) ). for more graphs you could slide vom right to left over the current graph and the next slides into view from right.

    just an idea
